WHO'S YOUR CRAWDADDY? New Orleans Jazz

There really isn't another place in America that defined it's own music like New Orleans did. From Jelly Roll Morton to Louis Armstrong's groundbreaking jazz work to various brass bands and the funk of Professor Longhair, Dr. John and The Meters, New Orleans has been a breeding ground for music with as unique a flavor as it’s celebrated cuisine.

"Who's Your Crawdaddy?" is:
Anat Cohen - clarinet/soprano sax
Kenny Rampton - trumpet
Ryan Keberle - trombone
Keith Yaun - banjo/guitar
Ron Caswell - tuba
Andrew Barker - drums

"Our goal is to bring the flavor of New Orleans Jazz, Second Line, and R&B to people all around the world. Just try to stay still once the music starts. When the "Crawdaddy"gets cooking everybody starts a movin'."

The magical element in Who's Your Crawdaddy's music comes from the band members and their extensive experience. They all have played individually with the finest musicians, and at the best venues in the world! They include Joe Lovano, Max Roach, Dave Brubeck, Aretha Franklin, Nancy Wilson, Clark Terry, Joe Williams, Bob Mintzer, Frank Foster, and venues: Carnegie Hall, The Montreal Jazz Festival, Lincoln Center, The North Sea Jazz Festival, The Blue Note, The Berlin Jazz Festival and many more.

"Who's Your Crawdaddy?" has performed for many different types of functions such as street fairs, outdoor festivals, weddings, house parties, political rallies, private functions and concerts in and around the New York metropolitan area. "WYCD?" has appeared at: Two Boots, Barbes, Zebulon, Natchez, Summer Stage, CBGBs, Concordia Conservatory, Damrosch Park, Stuyvesant Town Summer Concert Series, and too many more to mention! WYCD also just recorded the music for and episode of "Iconoclasts" on the Sundance Channel. As you can see, there really isn't a job we can't do. "Who’s Your Crawdaddy?" We are!

The energy this band plays with is something to experience! On stage the interactions are intuitive, electric and spontaneous. Improvisation is what "Who's Your Crawdaddy?" is great at, especially when it comes to mixing elements of different musical genres. They members have extensive experience in many styles including Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, Haitian, Reggae, Klezmer, Classical, Pop, Rock, and more. Obviously, this opens the doors to musical manipulation and exploration. You might hear a "ska" groove in the middle of the old classic, "Summertime", or a merengue feel in "St. James Infirmary".

"Who’s Your Crawdaddy?" uses the standard New Orleans Jazz Band instrumentation of trumpet, clarinet/sax, trombone, banjo, tuba and sometimes drums. Only the "traditional" Dixieland bands use this instrumentation today but you won’t hear those bands play with the fire "The Crawdaddy" plays with! This is RAW New Orleans music, straight from the heart, not over-arranged and watered down, but intense and emotional.

We hope to bring the power and spirit of this music around the globe. We play it because we love it, and we know you will love it too!
